How to Sell a Roblox Script: Pricing, Keys and Buyers

A practical guide to selling a Roblox script: choosing lifetime or monthly pricing, running a free tier, handling buyers through Discord, and keeping paid keys from being shared.

Selling a script is less about the code than people expect. The script gets people interested, but buyers stay because of how easy it is to buy, how reliably it works and how fast you respond when it breaks. Here's how creators who sell successfully usually set things up.

Decide what you're actually selling

Before pricing anything, be clear on what a buyer gets that a free player doesn't. Common options:

  • The full feature set, with a free version that has the basics.
  • No key flow, so buyers skip the ad checkpoints free players go through.
  • Early access to new features before they reach the free tier.
  • Priority support in your Discord.

Most creators combine a couple of these. What matters is that the paid version is clearly better, and that the difference is enforced on your server rather than with a check in the script that someone can delete.

Lifetime or monthly?

There are two common pricing models, and each has a catch.

Lifetime keys are easy to sell. Buyers like paying once. The catch is that you're promising to keep the script working indefinitely, through every game update and every patch, for money you've already received.

Monthly keys match the ongoing work. Every month you keep the script working, you get paid. The catch is that buyers need a reason to keep paying, so you have to keep shipping updates.

Many creators offer both: monthly as the default and a higher one-time price for lifetime. Whatever you choose, make the key's expiry match what you sold. A monthly key that never expires is a lifetime key at a discount.

Run a free tier alongside

A free version behind a key flow does two jobs. It brings in players who will never pay but still earn you ad revenue, and it's the best advertisement for the paid version. We cover the free side in detail in making money with key flows.

The free and paid tiers have to be separated on your server, so a free key can't unlock paid features.

Handle buyers through Discord

Your Discord server is your shop, your support desk and your update channel. A few things make it work:

  • A clear way to buy and a clear way to redeem a key once paid.
  • A buyer role, so paying customers get their own channels and you can see who's who.
  • Self-service HWID resets. Buyers change PCs. If every reset needs you to reply manually, you'll spend your evenings doing it.
  • An announcements channel for updates and outages.

A Discord bot that handles key redemption, HWID resets and buyer roles takes most of this off your plate.

Protect what you're charging for

If a paid key can be shared, every share is a lost sale. The basics:

  • Lock each key to a device, so a posted key doesn't work for anyone else.
  • Only send the real script after the key check passes. A loader with the full script inside it is a free script with extra steps.
  • Obfuscate the script, so a buyer can't just dump it and post the source.
  • Be able to ban quickly, by key, device or account, when you catch someone reselling.

Our key system guide goes through each of these in more detail.

Keep it working

Buyers forgive a lot if you fix things quickly. They don't forgive silence.

  • Watch for errors. If you can see the errors your script throws in players' games, you'll often fix a bug before the first complaint.
  • Keep old versions. When an update breaks something, rolling back takes a minute instead of an evening.
  • Post when something breaks, even if you don't have a fix yet.

Setting it up with LuaProtect

LuaProtect covers the setup in this post: device-locked keys, a key flow for your free tier, a Discord bot that redeems keys, resets HWIDs and gives buyer roles, bans that kick live players, script error tracking and version history with rollback. The free plan includes the obfuscator, key system, bans and the Discord bot. Pro (€4.99 a month) raises the limits to 10,000 keys and adds VPN blocking and executor restrictions. If you're comparing options, our Luarmor alternative page lists what's included.
